KYOTO PROTOCOL TO PARIS AGREEMENT
Kyoto protocol is an international
agreement adopted in Kyoto, Japan on December 11, 1997 and came into force on February
16, 2005. Currently there are 192 parties
in it. The main objective of this protocol was to eradicate global warming by
reducing green house gases from entering the atmosphere.
Paris
agreement or Paris climate agreement is an agreement dealing with green house emissions. It was adopted on 12 December
2015 and came into force on 4 November 2016. As of February 2018, 194 states
and the European Union have signed the agreement.
The Paris
agreement gives more safety values than the Kyoto deal so that countries like
China and India would not be scared off. The Paris agreement also provides a
few requirements on countries for reporting their progress. The procedure of
Paris agreement is same as Kyoto protocol but there is not enough time as
earlier for time taking processes. The deals differ in their approach to
achieve the ultimate goal to stabilize the green house gases. Kyoto protocol
binds only the developed countries and not the developing countries to reduce
their emissions. Paris agreement can make maximum emitters to reduce their
emissions. However in this, it asks the developed countries to take the lead.
